We met up with some other homeschoolers and had an afternoon at a river close by. It was so nice and the first time we had been to this place. We plan to go back later on. We saw lots of caddis flies (their cocoons are super cool- they grab rocks or leaves or whatever they can find and put around them to blend in and make a cocoon with them. We had them back in China but the ones today used bits of leaves, pine needles, and rocks to make their cocoons. Super cool!). We also saw some California newts, small fish, and a dragonfly that just came out of its cocoon.
This blog highlights books and resources for learning about Chinese history and language for children. I hope it's also an encouragement for other homeschool families who are homeschooling bi-lingually or who want to add in some Chinese history into their homeschool.

Visit to a Museum and Nature Study
We went to visit a local museum a few days ago. It was well put together and great to see people trying to help preserve some history. Coming from where we lived in China, it's very different. There "history" is well over 1,000 years old and often 2,000 years old or more. Here, the museum had items mostly from a hundred years old (give or take) or less. It was great to see though and people put a lot of work in putting the museum together. It was a good visit overall.

Out and About
We have about 2 weeks left until we finish our homeschool for the year. We'll do a bit of review over the summer but the summer will be full of outings (mostly day outings): the beach, the park, swimming, camping, etc... It'll be the first time the kids and Charlie go camping...several firsts.
